Report: Mumbai’s ‘Water Bench’ Enables Water Collection, Storage

According to CityMinded.org, Mumbai has implemented a low-tech solution for the collection and storage of water in public places — the “water bench.”

The porous bench, made from partially recycled polyethylene, absorbs water when it rains and stores it underneath, while also serving as a large public bench in the city’s parks. According to the article, the water bench is one of several “micro-solutions” being developed for the sprawling city, which faces daunting infrastructure challenges, particularly in slum neighborhoods.
